The Pesticide Risk Tool has sunset the Consumer Cancer and Dermal Cancer indices. They will no longer be availiable when calculating risk for applications.
In order to maintain the Pesticide Risk Tool as the best current science, we are sunsetting the dermal cancer and consumer cancer risk indices. Effective 05/18/2026, these indices will no longer be displayed in the risk results.
Key data required to run the two cancer risk index models (namely, the cancer q-star) is no longer generated by the US EPA. As a result, the current models can no longer be maintained or applied to newly registered active ingredients.
PRT is seeking experts on pesticide risk to humans to partner with to redevelop the risk models to support the cancer risk indices, as well as funding opportunities to support the work. Please contact us at support@pesticiderisk.org with any questions, or to recommend experts or funding opportunities.
This should not impact how users use the Pesticide Risk Tool. There are no adjustments on the user end to be made, the cancer indices will simply no longer appear in the result output.
Because the underlying cancer risk models in PRT have gradually become dated, and are no longer being updated or supported within the PRT, users should interpret and apply any historical risk results at their own discretion.
